At 3 p.m. today, Jason Bernhardt, co-tournament director of the Wild Carp Classic, gave the following update:
He said the local team of Jake McKenna and his son, Jim McKenna, both of Baldwinsville, have the biggest fish at this point. Their carp weighed in at 32 pounds, two ounces. If it holds, the team will win $1,000.
Meanwhile, Mihai Aciu and his teammate, Bogdan Bucur, both of Chicago, are still in the lead for the $7,000 grand prize for the most weight of fish in the 50-hour long tournament.
"We have them at 38 fish, 703 pounds," Bernhardt said, noting all the results from the morning were still not completely tallied.
Aciu and Bucor have also landed the biggest mirror carp in the competition so far. It weighed 21 pounds. If that holds, they will win $1,000.
No update was available in the "big four" category (the four heaviest carp). The winner in that category will also win a $1,000 prize.
A total of 36 teams are fishing in the competition, which ends at 11 a.m. Tuesday.
